WELCOME Welcome to Korea
- a land rich in culture
and history. We know that you'll want to begin to explore
the land and learn about things Korean as soon as you get settled.
We'd like to introduce you to the pre-eminent
and oldest organization in Korea that specializes in introducing
people from all walks of life, all nationalities, all ages, all
professions, to the beauty of this land in all its many aspects.
INTRODUCTION The Royal Asiatic Society-Korea Branch (RASKB)
makes getting acquainted with Korea an adventure. The purpose
of this non-profit organization is to enhance understanding of the
arts, customs, history, and literature of Korea.
Membership in the RASKB, which was founded
in 1900, is open to anyone with a sense of adventure and a bit of
intellectual curiosity. Membership in the RASKB gives newcomers
to Korea a place to start learning about their new cultural environment
through three major activities: 1. tours, 2. publications, 3. lectures.

HISTORY The Korea Branch of the RAS was born in
June 1900, when 17 men from three countries: Germany, Great Britain,
and the USA, met to form a branch of the Royal Asiatic Society of
London. These founding members came from all walks of life:
some had been members of the society in London, and others were
scholars and businessmen who were interested in forming a society
expand their knowledge of Korea and the Far East.
MEMBERSHIP The RASKB has over 1500 members in more
than 20 countries. One thousand members reside in Korea and
500 reside overseas. Members are from a variety of professions.
In addition to discounts on RASKB tours
and books, members receive the annual Transactions.
Members residing in Korea receive a monthly
bulletin listing tours and lectures. Overseas members receive an
occasional newsletter updating them on RASKB activities as well
as events and headlines from Korea.
