Spend the Saturday in the countryside with the R.A.S., enjoying the fantastic, unspoiled natural scenery of Inner and South Seorak Mountain. Most tourists visiting Seorak-san National Park go only to the more frequently visited sights of Outer Sorak, and are unaware of the beautiful and remote Inner Seorak range. Inner Seorak is wilder, more natural, and little touched by man—truly an undiscovered natural paradise.

We will leave Seoul on Saturday morning, June 30, at 7:30 a.m., arriving at the entrance of Inner Seorak at 10:30 am. First we will hike up to Baekdamsa (100 Pools Temple). Baekdamsa is the principle temple of this area. It was moved to the present location in the late 7th century. In the past this temple was accessible only on foot, but now roads have been built to the temple – largely because of former President Chun Doo-hwan's years of exile here. Today we will drive part of the way, but in order to take full advantage of the fantastic scenery, we will hike through a long stretch of this lush valley, the home of amazing rock formations, streams and great views. The total roundtrip hiking time will be about two hours, but it is a relatively easy hike, as the path is well-maintained and not steep.

After finishing our inner Seorak hike, we will continue on by bus (about one hour) to the Osaek Valley (in South Seorak). The main attraction here is the Osaek Mineral Spring, which has attracted visitors with its cool clean water for the past 1,500 years. We will also have some time to explore the outstanding mountain scenery and springs in this area, known as South Seorak Mountain. We will take a hike (about two hours round trip) to Yongso Waterfall situated in Southern Seorak, enjoying the mountain air and scenery along the way. Here we will have a delicious Korean dinner before heading back to Seoul.

Cost of the excursion is W65,000 for R.A.S. members and W78,000 for non members. Price includes transportation & Korean dinner. Please wear very casual clothes, and comfortable walking shoes. We will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the Yongsan Post Office (Subway, Line number 4, blue line, Sinyongsan Station #429, exit #1) and return to Seoul around 9:00 p.m.

You may bring your own lunch for Sunday or buy it at a rest stop along the way.
