SOYANG LAKE AND GUGOK WATER FALL (CHUNCHEON)

Join the R.A.S. for a delightful journey in the countryside to the beautiful Gugok Water Fall (near Chuncheon) and Soyang Lake.

After leaving the Yongsan post office, we will proceed north, through Chuncheon to Soyang Dam, which forms the beautiful Soyang Lake. This dam, completed in 1973, rises to a height of 123m and spans 530m, holding back the 63-km-long Soyang Lake. The lake winds through a serpentine valley below lofty, pine-covered hills. We’ll take a 20-minute boat ride to Cheongpyeongsa Temple from Soyang Dam.

Cheongpyeongsa temple was established by Zen master, Yeonghyeon, in the 24th year of King Gwangjong of the Goryeo dynasty (973). It has been reconstructed a couple times since then. This temple is located at the foot of Obongsan mountain. We will have about an hour’s hike (round-trip) up the mountain for those who wish.

Our last stop will be Gugok water fall. Its name was given to it since it is a waterfall on a stream that comes around 9 bends (gugok) of Mt. Bonghwasan. The magnificent, refreshing fall, with a height of 50m, and the towering rock formations such as the Haneulbyeok (sky wall) rock are spectacles not to be missed.

The cost of the tour is W58,000 for members and W69,600 for non-members. Tour cost covers the transportation bus & boat) only. The bus will leave from the Yongsan Post Office (Shinyongsan Blue Line subway station #429) at 8:30 am and return is slated for 8:00 p.m. You may bring a sack lunch to eat beside the lake, or you may purchase a Korean meal at a lakeside restaurant.
